Imai Daruma NAYA's Fuku-iri Daruma Red is a classic design — one that has been popular for over 200 years.
Traditionally red, a color believed to ward off bad luck, evil spirits and illness, each daruma is hand-painted with motifs representing two of Japan’s ancient animal symbols of longevity. The daruma’s eyebrows are cranes, once said to live 1,000 years. The beard and mustache are turtles, believed to live 10,000 years. Painted in gold the daruma’s chest is the kanji character for “fuku,” good fortune — the mark of a vigilant guardian deity.
Imai Daruma NAYA’s contemporary lineup of Fuku-iri Daruma offers this traditional design in vibrant pop colors, each symbolic in Japan. There is a color to suit any home, each auspicious in a slightly different way.
