Yellow is a color of prosperity and courage, and a sunny hue of prosperity.
The yellow Fuku-iri Daruma is a vibrant version of Imai Daruma NAYA’s classic red daruma. Each one is hand-painted with motifs representing two of Japan’s ancient animal symbols of longevity. The daruma’s eyebrows are cranes, once said to live 1,000 years. The beard and mustache are turtles, believed to live 10,000 years. Painted in gold on the daruma’s chest is the kanji character for “fuku,” good fortune ― the mark of a vigilant guardian deity.
The Fuku-iri Daruma design has survived more than two centuries in Japan. Imai Daruma NAYA’s lineup of 11 colors are a fun contemporary spin on a well-loved classic.
